Great Big Trip

A Patrick Alexander adventure

I'm off round the world and I'm taking my notebook with me to make sure I come home with something more long-lasting than the terrible diseases my guide books tell me I can pick up en-route. Everyone visiting this site will know me as a writer of some kind, either as a journalist or through my attempts at creative writing. Whether it's the mechanics of wiping your bum with your left hand in India or the problem of how to kill seven days on a train through Russia with nothing but a pot noodle for company, I'm sure there will be parts of my trip worth sharing. I hope the entries posted here will be a mix of fact and fiction and, more than anything, that they will be entertaining. If they're not, drop me a line at trystero@postmaster.co.uk and give me a kick in the arse.

The route

54,000 miles, or so I'm told, give or take a mile or two - and that's just the flights. What the grand total, including all the overland travel through South America, Australia, China and Russia will be, I have no idea. Suggestions about what to go and see and what to miss are all extremely welcome. As a rough timescale, I'll be in South America between September and November; South East Asia in January; India from February to April and China in May and June.
