Summary of Interests/Message
The first Smith identified in my line was Christopher Smith (born about 1700 of Pendle) who married Jenet Hindle in Downham in 1725. This line stayed in Downham until 1852 when Christopher Smith grandson of the first Christopher died. His descendants lived in Blackburn and Clitheroe and operated a brush factory of some sort in Clitheroe.
My Great Grandfather, James Bolton Smith (born 1843 Blackburn) married Elizabeth Brew of the Isle of Man and moved to the island in 1873 and worked on the Isle of Man steam railway.
Three of his sons, two of whom were born on the Isle of Man, emigrated to Canada in the period 1904 to 1907..

To the best of my knowledge all other family members remained in England.
I believe my James and Ellen died after the 1851 census and before the 1861 census. Daughter Mary was living with the family in 1841 and 1851 census, and she is still living at the same address in 1861 but no James and Ellen.__________
