Joseph Hindle, Grandson of Sarah Smith & James Hindle.

by Derek Hindle

The photograph above is of Joseph Hindle, born 1843 at Cowling, the Grandson of Sarah Smith (married 19.4.1813 to James Hindle at Kildwick).

Joseph Hindle,  my great grandfather, is the man on the far left of the photo, holding his camera and tripod, with a bowler hat and moustache.

His parents James Hindle, bapt.11.10.1818 at Ickornshaw Methodist and Jane, nee Thornton married at Kildwick on 28.8.1842, moved to Bramley, Leeds in 1844.

He was a member of Leeds Photographic Society for some years, until his death in 1914 at Bramley. This photo was taken in 1884 at Roundhay Park, Leeds. It was sent to us in 1978 by the Society and my Dad, who was then living with us here from England, in his old age, and knew his Grandad well, having died when he was 14 years of age, recognised him immediately.
