HUNTLEY AND PALMERS LTD BISCUIT MANUFACTURERS, READING Factory served by sidings on the south side of the BR (ex SR and ex GWR) lines east of the Reading stations. The factory extended both north and south of the River Kennet. In 1879 the standard gauge served the works north of the river, with a loco shed at the north of the site (SU 723 736), and a single siding extending over the river to the south works. In this south section there was a narrow gauge system (hand or horse worked?) which also served an adjacent gasworks and sawmills to the east and extended over the river into the north section. By 1912 the narrow gauge had been lifted, the standard gauge extended, and a new loco shed built at the north-east corner of the site (SU 725 737). Rail traffic ceased in 12/1969, all track was subsequently lifted and the site redeveloped.
