CENTRAL ELECTRICITY GENERATING BOARD EARLEY POWER STATION, NEAR READING (Central Electricity Authority until 1/1/1958; British Electricity Authority until 1/4/1955; Central Electricity Board until 1/4/1948) A coal fired power station built from 1942 on the north of the BR (ex GWR) main line east of Reading with sidings connecting with this line and a loco shed at the west end of the site at SU 742 741. Later a small gas turbine power station was added to the site; the coal fired station closed in 1977 when normal rail traffic ceased.
