BRITISH GAS CORPORATION, SOUTHERN REGION, READING GASWORKS (Southern Gas Board until 1/1/1973; Reading Gas Co until 1/5/1949) Works at SU 728 737 served originally by standard gauge sidings on the south side of the BR (ex SECR) Reading- Wokingham line. About 1965 the town gas works closed for production and was replaced by a steam naphtha reforming plant which was served by new sidings on the north of the BR (ex GWR) Reading-Paddington line at SU 727 739. Subsequently rail traffic became infrequent until it ceased in 1976.
