EXPLANATION OF THE TABLES It is suggested that you print out this page and keep it by you while referring to the tables. Names of companies and places are those current at the time the information was collected and may have changed since. Ordnance Survey map references (e.g. SU 714 728) are given, where possible. Column A indicates the locomotive's running number or name. Column B (steam) indicates the wheel arrangement and tank type, e.g. 0-4-0ST = 4 driving wheels and a saddle tank. Column B (non-steam) indicates the wheel arrangement and power unit, e.g. 4wDM = 4 driving wheels, diesel engine, mechanical transmission. If D is replaced by P, this indicates a petrol or petrol/paraffin engine. Column C (steam only) indicates the position of the cylinders. OC = outside, IC = inside. Column D shows the name of the builder (see list of abbreviations below). Column E shows the works number. Column F shows the date the locomotive was built. Column G shows whether the locomotive was new or second-hand. Column H gives details of the disposal of the loco, s/s = sold or scrapped, disposal unknown.
