Rich Rides Out

This site is a chronicle of my motorcycle tour of the Americas. It is primarily designed to keep friends and family up to date with my journey but if you have stumbled across this in some other way, a brief introduction:

My name's Richard, I'm a 33 year old Brit until recently gainfully employed with a good salary, a house, and at least some of the trappings of moderate middle class success. But I jacked it all in to follow a dream I've had for a few years. I've bought a motorbike, am shipping it across to the States, then riding it down through Central and west coast South America right ot the bottom, and up again round the east coast to Brazil, where my old school mate Steve lives with his wife Vanessa and 2 kids.

This is my motorbike, almost fully loaded:

Its a 2002 BMW F650 GS Dakar with ABS, heated hand grips and BMW top case. The main luggage is a pair of 41 litre aluminium Zega cases from Touratech, mounted on a Touratech frame, plus a tank bag with side pockets totaling another 45 litres. Which gives me a carrying capacity of about 2 large rucksacks, plus what I can strap on with bungees.

Packing list and other detail on the bike is here
