Leatherhead

Did you know that there is a preserved steam locomotive at Leatherhead Leisure Centre?  Not many people do, because it's hidden at the back with the rubbish bins and can only be seen by arrangement.  Here is a photo of it.

Hawthorn Leslie 3837/1934 at Leatherhead Leisure Centre, July 2006.

This engine was No.16 at the British Steel Corporation's Corby Works in Northamptonshire and a detailed history can be found here.

Two sister engines are preserved. No.14 (HL 3827/1934) at East Carlton Countryside Park, Corby, and No.21 "Linda" (HL 3931/1938) on the Ribble Steam Railway.

Surrey Society of Model Engineers has an extensive miniature railway in Mill Lane, Leatherhead. Click here for map and opening times. The map also shows the location of the Leisure Centre.
